MATTEO SEDDA – FUCK ME BLIND – Preview
The duo FUCK ME BLIND is inspired by Blue, the last autobiographical film made by Derek Jarman just months before his death from AIDS. In it, Jarman, almost completely blind, confronts his impending death while affirming his will to live. The “International Klein Blue”, a color deeply significant to the director and the only image shown in the film, serves as the starting point for this choreography, in which the bodies spin endlessly toward infinity. Using the same non-narrative means as the film, FUCK ME BLIND evokes a hypnotic experience against the backdrop of a homoerotic landscape and through aesthetic codes reminiscent of a homoerotic folk dance. The dance of the two bodies symbolizes the opposing yet inseparable forces of Eros and Thanatos, and reinforces the director’s assertion of existence.
Matteo Sedda is a choreographer, dancer, and activist from Sardinia. He works as a freelancer for various artists, including Jan Fabre, Enzo Cosimi, Aïda Gabriëls, and Igor x Moreno. Since 2018, his choreographic work has been strongly influenced by his HIV diagnosis. By exploring the concepts of desire and vulnerability, he engages with AIDS in a new way and renews the dialogue between historical memory and artistic reflection. His first solo, POZ!, in which he came out as HIV-positive, became an artistic manifesto. FUCK ME BLIND, winner of DNAppunti Coreografici 2024, will premiere on October 19, 2025, at the Romaeuropa Festival.
