Fifty women take the stage. One of them is a queen, the rest are her reckoning.
Olivier Dubois created the original Les Mémoires d’un seigneur in 2015 as a solo for a male performer. A decade later, a group of women who had attended one of his workshops asked him to reimagine it for them. He said yes — and what emerged is something more volatile and more resonant than the original.At its center is Marie-Laure Caradec, a long-standing collaborator of Dubois, performing the role of a queen navigating the axes of tyranny, insurrection, and civilization. Around her: a chorus of 50 women from Bolzano and the surrounding region, recruited through open call, none of them professional dancers.The effect, when trained performer meets untrained collective, when a single body is surrounded by fifty, is one of the most visually arresting things on this year’s program.Italian premiere.
