Compagnie Olivier Dubois
Wild Descent
Italian Premiere
A citywide choreography: wild descent is a tribute to Bolzano. Olivier Dubois — now co-artistic director of Bolzano Danza together with Anouk Aspisi — pays tribute to the city with Wild Descent, a poetic reimagining of his acclaimed Faune(s). Inspired by Nijinsky’s revolutionary L’Après-midi d’un Faune and Debussy’s iconic music, the work unfolds as a quiet invasion of movement and myth across Bolzano’s urban landscape. Dubois is one of only thirty choreographers worldwide authorised to transmit Nijinsky’s original choreographic score. For Wild Descent, he joins his company and a group of local non-professional dancers in creating a choreography that stretches through time and space, appearing, disappearing, reappearing, in Castel Mareccio and the Parco delle Semirurali. For four hours, fauns wander the city: alone, in pairs, in clusters. They drift through stone courtyards and grassy paths, blurring the lines between ritual and reality. Wild Descent is a living homage to Bolzano: a luminous affirmation that dance belongs to everyone.
In collaboration with Foundation Castels Bolzano and Cooperativa 19 / Stagione Estiva Don Bosco.
With the support of the Fondazione Nuovi Mecenati – the Franco-Italian foundation for contemporary creation.
