From July 18 to August 1, the Bolzano Danza Festival returns to light up the city’s summer!
The 41st edition launches a new adventure titled Insurrection, the first chapter of a trilogy envisioned by artistic directors Anouk Aspisi and Olivier Dubois. This marks the beginning of a new cycle, urging us in 2025 to rise, shift perspectives, and voice the deepest truths within us. For two weeks, Bolzano will transform into a stage-city, hosting over 30 events, including performances, open-air shows, artist’s talks, world premieres, participatory activities, explorations of unexpected locations, and projects that connect dance, science, and community.
The Great Names of Contemporary Dance
The 2025 programme is a journey through the stars of the global dance scene. Among the most anticipated guests:
- Angelin Preljocaj, opening the festival with the powerful double creation HELIKOPTER/LICHT
- Lia Rodrigues, presenting cult performance Encantado, straight from the favelas of Rio de Janeiro
- Gisèle Vienne, with a piece inspired by the underground club culture of East Berlin
- Mette Ingvartsen, bringing the Italian premiere of the danced ritual Delirious Night
- Martin Zimmermann, with Louise, a fully female-driven creation blending circus and theatre
- Cherish Menzo, showcasing DARKMATTER, an Afro-futurist body exploration merging hip-hop and introspection
- François Chaignaud and Théo Mercier, captivating audiences with the hypnotic Radio Vinci Park
Alongside them, a new generation of Italian and international choreographers—from Marco D’Agostin to Ginevra Panzetti and Enrico Ticconi, from Stefania Tansini to Fabritia D’Intino, along with talents supported by networks such as Anticorpi XL and the BoNo! project—bring powerful imaginaries, hybrid languages, and new forms of participation to the stage.
New Projects, New Perspectives
EXTRADANZA
On July 26, the Prati del Talvera will become the vibrant heart of an explosive event day open to all forms of dance. A dynamic mix of performances featuring passionate amateurs, professionals, schools, and local associations will take turns celebrating movement as a universal language. Inspired by Paris’s 1 km de danse experience, this format launches in Italy for the very first time!
OPENLAB
A bridge between art and science takes shape with two three-year projects:
Landi’s Cube (July 23), curated by Margherita Landi in collaboration with NOI Techpark, explores dance through virtual reality. The audience will wear VR headsets and immerse itself in an interactive performance experience.
Border Lab, developed in partnership with EURAC Research, examines borders, mobility, and identity through a roundtable discussion between artists and researchers.

The Beating Heart of the Festival
A Festival That Embraces the City’s Most Beautiful Spaces
Alongside traditional theatre venues, Bolzano Danza continues to reimagine the city’s locations:
Castel Mareccio and Parco delle Semirurali host Wild Descent, Olivier Dubois’ site-specific tribute.
Fiera Bolzano welcomes the suspended universe of Radio Vinci Park.
Museo Mercantile, Fondazione Antonio Dalle Nogare, and Nuova Libreria Cappelli become settings for performances, premieres, and artist encounters.
