MULTIDIMENSIONAL
A bridge between cities and cultures
The Museion is one of modern-day Bolzano’s most iconic places and represents the city’s open-minded cultural politics. Inside, its contemporary art collection boasts over 4,500 works of art, with a healthy balance of international and South Tyrolean art. This futuristic cubic building fronted by two sculptural glass façades was built in 2008 by Berlin architecture studio KSV. In front of the building, two curved footbridges stretch across the River Talfer, a physical and symbolic link between the old town and newer area across the river. Oscillating rhythmically, they mimic an embrace which connects not only two parts of Bolzano, but also its inhabitants with the progressive language of the visual arts. But it is the Museion’s active role as a cultural workshop which has led Bolzano Danza to choose it as a location for many years. During the festival, the museum becomes an experimental space for new dance styles. Evocative, site-specific choreographies sit alongside video installations of contemporary dance, a blend of art, dance and architecture.
