Simon Le Borgne

Ad Libitum

One dancer. One musician. No script. Fifty minutes of something genuinely unpredictable.
Ad libitum is Latin for “at one’s pleasure” — and that phrase captures exactly what this performance is and isn’t. It isn’t improvisation in the loose sense. It’s two highly trained artists — dancer Simon Le Borgne (Paris Opera Ballet, Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch) and musician Ulysse Zangs — building something together in real time, with the kind of precision that only comes from deep mutual trust.Zangs moves through the space activating drums, voice, synthesizer, and guitar. Le Borgne responds, initiates, dissolves. The sound drops away entirely at points, leaving only breath and footsteps. Then it surges back.

The Chiostro dei Domenicani — a 13th-century Dominican cloister — provides a setting that makes the intimacy of this piece feel even more charged. Arrive early. The atmosphere starts before the lights go down.
