Ruda – Ayelen Parolin
Irresistible Revolution
Twelve dancers. Buenos Aires carnival. The most purely joyful 55 minutes on this year’s program. Ayelen Parolin’s new work debuted in Brussels in April to immediate critical enthusiasm, and it’s not hard to understand why. Irresistible Revolution takes the energy of Argentine murga and cumbia — street forms built for collective participation, for noise, for excess — and channels it into a piece for twelve dancers that feels less like a concert and more like being invited into something.
The politics are there, rooted in Adrienne Maree Brown’s writing on pleasure as resistance. But Parolin wears them lightly. The overwhelming experience of Irresistible Revolution isn’t argument or statement — it’s the physical sensation of twelve people moving together with complete commitment and zero apology. Italian premiere. In collaboration with OperaEstate Festival.
