Mohamed Toukabri
Every-Body-Knows-What-Tomorrow-Brings-And-We-All-Know-What-Happened-Yesterday
A title that takes up a whole line. A solo that earns every word of it. Mohamed Toukabri began dancing at twelve with breakdance in Tunis. He trained at P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels. He has performed across Europe and made work that travels the world. His third piece — previewed at last year’s Festival d’Avignon — is also his most searching.
The full title is Every-Body-Knows-What-Tomorrow-Brings-And-We-All-Know-What-Happened-Yesterday. The work underneath it is a solo investigation into what dance carries and what it erases: how movement is transmitted, who gets to transmit it, and what happens when forms considered marginal meet forms considered canonical. Toukabri doesn’t resolve these questions. He inhabits them — for 60 minutes, alone on stage, with a physical intelligence and range that makes the abstraction feel urgent and alive.
