What happens when a choreographer hands dancers a VR headset instead of a mirror? For the past year, choreographer Margherita Landi has been working with NOI Techpark and Fraunhofer Italia on a question that sounds simple but isn’t: can a three-dimensional virtual grid replace the traditional tools of dance instruction — and if so, what new possibilities does that open up? Landi’s Cube is the result. A VR application that maps body parts to points in space, giving dancers precise spatial coordinates without dictating how to move between them. Rhythm, dynamics, interpretation — those remain entirely the dancer’s own. The twist: the audience can’t see what’s inside the headset. They can only watch the bodies responding to it. The virtual becomes physical in real time. This 90-minute session combines a talk from the project team with a live demonstration — and ends with the audience getting to try the headsets themselves. No dance experience required, but an open mind helps.
