Quixote – A Rose is not a Rose

Don Quixote, rewritten by Kathy Acker and Monique Wittig, performed site-specific in one of Bolzano’s most beautiful private foundations. Industria Indipendente — the Rome-based collective founded by Erika Z. Galli and Martina Ruggeri — works at the intersection of performance, visual art, and language. For Bolzano Danza they bring a new site-specific piece developed with dancer and choreographer Annamaria Ajmone, set inside the spaces of the Fondazione Antonio Dalle Nogare.
The starting point is Cervantes. But the Don Quixote at the center of this piece is a figure from the future — one who doesn’t fight windmills but imagines alternatives to them. The references accumulate: Kathy Acker’s radical rewriting, Monique Wittig’s feminist recasting, and a shared writing practice that resists any single authoritative version of the story.
The evening begins with a screening of the video work Dammi i brividi ma non per la paura (2025), featuring the voice of Silvia Calderoni. The performance follows — without a clear beginning or end.
