Francesca Ziviani’s new work, an Italian premiere, is set in Bolzano’s Parco delle Semirurali and built around a single, sustained pulse: the live drumming of Olympia Boyle, which drives the two dancers into and out of states that blur the line between controlled movement and something more instinctive.
Ziviani’s research draws on trance traditions and the relationship between rhythm and physical presence. But the experience of watching État Sauvage doesn’t require that context — the outdoor setting, the sound moving through open air, the bodies responding to it in real time, does the work.Thirty minutes.
