Tradition and rebirth
South Tyrol’s most important political and financial institutions can be found between lively Piazza Walther and the main railway station. In this area, you will also find the Waltherhaus, on of Bolzano’s cultural centres. This sober multifunctional building is home to the Südtiroler Kulturinstitut and various other associations that promote the culture of German-speaking South Tyrol. The Südtiroler Kulturinstitut has promoted the South Tyrolean cultural identity and forged artistic and research relationships with the German-speaking world since 1954. During Bolzano Danza, the Südtiroler Kulturinstitut is offering all kinds of dance workshops. The name of the Waltherhaus refers to the medieval icon Walther von der Vogelweide, the German-speaking world’s most famous poet-troubadour, author of love songs that stand the test of time and powerful political poetry. A large foyer on the lower floors below the offices hosts exhibitions and a 500-seater modern theatre where the Südtiroler Kulturinstitut organises theatre performances, concerts, readings, conferences and conventions. During Bolzano Danza, audiences are invited to fully immerse themselves in dance choreographies that use a rich heritage to journey from times gone by to present day. Combining different disciplines, from dance and song to writing and acting, these performances defy genre to create new visual ideas
