The landmark inspired
by the mountains
The headquarters of Salewa, leading mountain clothing and accessories company, is a futuristic complex located in Bolzano Sud. Rising 50 metres, its profile brings to mind the Dolomites, the backdrop to our urban landscape. Built in 2011 by Milanese ‘archistar’ Cino Zucchi and Park Associati, this sustainable, zero-emissions organism is an undisputed icon of the South Tyrolean capital, a symbol of its dynamic relationship between the modern world and its geographic and cultural roots. The complex system of slabs and towers, reminiscent of large rocks clad in micro perforated zinc, reflective glass and solar panels, was inspired by a concept of “complete” beauty that encompasses not only the physical beauty of the famous South Tyrolean mountains, but has a social element too: among the warehouses and offices is a nursery and a large climbing gym for locals to use, and the company culture is strongly geared towards reusing, recycling and travelling sustainably. It’s no surprise that the headquarters has earned the enviable CasaClima “Work & Life” certification. In acknowledgement of its unwavering commitment to shared values, the Entrance Hall of Salewa Cube was chosen as the location of a multi-disciplinary round table which will open Bolzano Danza Festival 2022.
